Yu Xie studies the legal history of pre-modern Korea. She received her B.A. in Korean Language and Literature from Peking University and her M.A. in Korean History from Seoul National University. Her master’s thesis focused on death penalty cases involving mental illness in late Chosŏn. Yu aims to further explore the strategic maneuvering between the state and subjects on trial in her future study. She also has a strong interest in Korea’s historical connections with China, particularly the application of Ming code and the legal status of Ming migrants in Chosŏn Korea.
