Brie Larson Discusses ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and Marvel’s Robert Downey Jr. Surprise

With the news that Robert Downey Jr. will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to play Victor von Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, fans have begun to speculate about who else will return the next time the Avengers assemble.
While Kevin Feige confirmed that the Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts will appear in the fifth Avengers film, the rest of the cast remains unknown. As Marvel is reportedly hoping to bring 60 characters back for the film, there would seemingly be room for many familiar faces.
During a recent interview with The Playlist, Brie Larson, who has portrayed Carol Danvers/Ms. Marvel across four MCU films, was asked whether she would suit up for Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. Larson was mum.

“I can’t say anything and I can’t even say that I don’t know anything. That might mean that there’s something to say or not say,” she said. “So I’ll just say that I can’t say.”
Will The Marvels Reunite?
The last time we saw Captain Marvel, she was teaming up with Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) for The Marvels. Although the film was generally well-received by critics, it was a box-office disaster.

When asked if a Marvels reunion could be in the cards, Larson had nothing but praise for her co-stars.
“I just loved being with those ladies so much,” she explained.

“And I think that the sentiment of it is so right to me and is much more where I’m at in my life. Which is, there’s no one superhero that can save us. It takes all kinds of people that have their own special skill sets and the ability to understand that the brink of disaster cannot be stopped by one. It’s all of us coming together. So that feels really right to me. And you know, as for the future, there’s things that I know, but I can’t tell you.”
Kevin Feige’s Big Surprise
Finally, getting back to Avengers: Doomsday, Larson was asked if she had any inkling that Robert Downey Jr. was about to return to the MCU. While Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman was seemingly in on the surprise, other Marvel stars were clearly shocked.

According to Larson, despite seeing Kevin Feige on the same day as the big Downey reveal, she had no idea what was coming.
“I want to be clear. I was just with Kevin [Feige]. It was like that same day. And he was like, ‘Oh yeah, we’re doing a thing at Comic-Con.’ He did not say that at all! Not at all!”

Based on the number of returning characters and Larson’s non-denial, it seems safe to say that Captain Marvel will appear again in the MCU. How exactly the next Avengers team-up comes together, however, remains to be seen.
