Before Returning to the MCU, Robert Downey Jr. Met With Bob Iger to Discuss Contributing to Disney’s Parks

Kevin Feige shocked the Marvel Multiverse last month when he took the stage in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con and announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

While the news seemed to come out of left field, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Downey revealed that it was actually a reunion a year in the making.

While the story of Downey’s decision to return is interesting, it also includes a juicy detail.

Downey’s Meeting With Bob Iger

Before agreeing to return to the MCU, Downey Jr. was already seeking a meeting with Bob Iger to discuss contributing to Disney’s parks and location-based entertainment.

Soon, the Marvel star found himself inside Bob Iger’s home. Discussing a possible return to MCU return, Iger seemed to have already heard Feige’s plans for Downey to play Doom.

“I like it,” he said.

A Tour of Walt Disney Imagineering

Following their meeting, Iger arranged for Downey and Feige to visit Walt Disney Imagineering. Needless to say, the actor was impressed.

“You want to talk about two guys that are not easy to have their minds blown, let alone at the same time,” said Downey. “What is going on there, right now, is so beyond my expectations of what was possible.”

Learning that Downey met with Imagineering could help explain how the actor’s return as Tony Stark/Iron Man for the Stark Flight Lab that is coming to Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure.

Between his meeting with Bob Iger, his tour of Imagineering, and his return to the MCU, Robert Downey Jr. will likely continue to be a large part of the Disney family going forward. Hopefully, we will continue to see his relationship with the company produce fruit.
