After Dominating the Box Office, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Conquers Streaming

After dominating the box office this summer, Deadpool & Wolverine has continued its record-break roll on streaming.
The third installment in the Deadpool franchise arrived on Disney+ on November 12 and swiftly became the most-watched live-action film on the platform since Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It was also Hulu’s biggest debut for a live-action film.
In its first six days of streaming, Deadpool & Wolverine racked up an impressive 19.4 million views, once again showing that reports of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s demise may have been overstated.

As a quick reminder, Disney calculates viewership numbers by dividing the total time streamed by runtime.
A Historic Year For Marvel
After a disappointing 2023 at the box office, Marvel returned to theaters this year with a vengeance. During its theatrical run, Deadpool & Wolverine grossed over $1.33 billion at the global box office, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.

Once the film hit streaming, Deadpool & Wolverine kept the good times rolling, besting John Wick: Chapter 4 to deliver the highest-grossing first week on digital for an R-rated film.
Now that stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have conquered streaming, their next target will be award season. While critics have often been hesitant to award Marvel films with prestigious awards, the undeniable success of Deadpool and Wolverine could change that.

A Big Win For Disney+
Finally, it should be noted that Disney’s biggest theatrical films have also dominated streaming. Once upon a time, there was a prevailing notion that films should be released straight to streaming to drive audiences to those platforms.

As films like Inside Out 2 and now Deadpool & Wolverine have shown, big box office films can still deliver a large audience to streamers.
