Following his shocking return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for Deadpool & Wolverine, Chris Evans took to social media to thank Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Shawn Levy for giving him the opportunity.

“Thank you to Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Shawn Levy for letting me be a part of such an incredible movie!” Evans wrote on his Instagram story.

Evans, of course, played Captain America in the MCU for eight years, appearing in a total of 12 different films. For Deadpool & Wolverine, however, the actor did not portray the famous first Avenger, but instead, he reprised his role as Johnny Storm from the 2005 Fantastic Four franchise.

That’s right. Long before winning the hearts of fans everywhere as Steve Rogers, Evans played the cocky Human Torch in both 2005’s Fantastic Four and 2007’s Rise of the Silver Surfer.

In Deadpool & Wolverine, the titular heroes come across Johnny in the Void. Initially, Reynolds’s Merc with the Mouth assumes he is meeting Captain America, that is until Evans yells “Flame on!” and takes to the sky.

While Evans will likely always be associated with Captain America, in his Instagram post, he shared his affinity for his first Marvel role.

“Special thank you to Ryan for making it all happen. Playing Johnny again was a dream come true and he’ll always have a special place in my heart,” his post continued.

A Fitting Ending

True to its advertising, Deadpool & Wolverine featured many returning characters from past 20th Century Fox Marvel films. Like Evans, both Wesley Snipes and Channing Tatum (who finally got to play Gambit) thanked Reynolds for facilitating their returns.

In the end, not only did Deadpool & Wolverine serve as a love letter to the Fox Marvel movies, but it also allowed some of the biggest heroes in movie history to suit up one more time.
